May 2011

There was some good days out last May, Here’s an old report from then which helps to shake off the winter blues:)

Wayne & Fozally set off at 6.30am as planned but I was stuck in bed after a late night cos I’d went shore fishing until 11pm then messed about on the net for a bit to catch up on things. I finally managed to get on the water around 9.30am & surprised them 8)

When I got out to them about 1/2 mile out they already had a few codling each so I got out my 2 hook flapper from last cast the night before which hadn’t been outlong so I kept the crab bait on. I dropped it to the bottom complete with 5oz plain weight & trotted it along as we caught up and chatted when I got a great bite and struck into a codling of around 2-1/2lb. I was chuffed to bits after blanking from the shore the night before but I returned it to grow as it was a lovely fresh run fish that was just lipped on the size 1 hook

We drifted around with our drogues out and the wind picked from the ssw which made it very difficult for us as the tide began to ebb and rendered the drouges useless! We eventually paddled cloe in for a few drops but quickly ended up far out so I anchored up and the lads hooked up to beegee with their bow lines :)

We sat for about an hour over a good bit of hard ground but the wind was spoiling it as the yaks pulled & yanked each other in the swell so we decided to head in & I lost the anchor in the process! It took us a good 45 minutes to paddle in together at around 1mph against the strong wind in our faces & it was a struggle for us all but we landed safely on the beach for a good rest and stretched our dead legs which was a good laugh as we got off the yaks pmsl

We must’ve looked crackers to others as we stumbled about the beach with leashes on and falling all over

Here’s a few pics off my phone, over to you “lenscap” & “statham” pmsl

“I’ve got cod shit on me yak, la la la la la”

Thanks for kicking it off m8  .A cracking spot of YAK fishing enjoyed with good company :D , there’s plenty of codling graced the deck of my yak but until yesterday the ‘double shot’ had eluded me, another first 8).

Here’s a few pic’s and some video, the zoom shots are not that good but trying to hold the camera steady is a nightmare in those conditions, the clips of me paddling back shows how much of a slog the paddle back was  .http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XFSE8_F2Y28
